Chocolate Lab Cooks Sunday Brunch |
February 22, 2001 Chicago, Illinois, USA What does your dog do while you're away? As the Lemme family learned last Sunday, theirs apparently whips up a little something in the kitchen. Bear, the 13-year-old, 70-pound, lazy chocolate lab was left home alone whilst the family attended church. When Lori, Peter and their daughter Jessi Lemme returned to the house on Dunbar St., they found in the kitchen quite a perplexing mess. It was filled with smoke, there were bits of charred dog food scattered about, and the stove had been operated. Although the entire house had smoke damage and the kitchen was wrecked, the homeowners' immediate concern was for Bear. He was found uninjured and hiding in a corner of the basement.

Until Bear decides to publish his memoirs, the world may never know exactly what happened. It is believed that he knocked over a 5-pound bag of dog food that had been on the counter next to the stove. Then somehow he managed to bump the controls and turn on a burner. Said Lori Lemme, "This 70-pound dog has trouble getting off the couch, but when it comes to food, he can do miracles." §§§ |
