"Vincent Van Dogh" Sells 4 Paw-Paintings

February 22, 2001 Decatur, Alabama, USA

Brushes?  Who needs them.  A few paws and an occasional roll on the canvas is all it takes.

At least that's what this Decatur dog is successfully proving in the art world.  Norche (that's pronounced Nor-shee, with a highbrow accent) is a 12-year old Scottish terrier who dabbles in watercolors on poster board, creating Impressionist works of art that are becoming a sensation.

Owner Bettina Rister says Norche has a great time doing it, too.  She explains that the dog dips her paws in color, then walks on the poster board to create her art.  Sometimes she rolls in the paint.

The precocious pup has recently been featured as a guest on Animal Planet's "Breed All About It".  Her works may also be viewed on Norche's own web site at home.hiwaay.net/~bar/pawtistic.html.

Norche's paintings, which Ms. Rister calls Paw-tistic Impressions, cost between $25 and $80 each. Proceeds benefit Scottish Terrier Rescue of North Alabama, which Ms. Rister operates with help from fellow dog lovers.
