Brave Dog Saves Would-Be Rape Victim |
March 23, 2001 Basildon, UK Early this week a woman was rescued from a serious sex assault in Glouchester Park when her dog heard her call. A 42-year-old woman was walking her Alsatian (German shepherd) in the park at around 3:15 in the afternoon. The dog ran ahead out of sight, and moments later the woman was grabbed from behind by a knife-wielding attacker. It is believed that the attacker was unaware that the woman had a dog. With one hand he grabbed her throat, and in the other he had a knife or other metallic weapon. Detective Constable Chris Thomas reports, "Despite being in this terrifying situation the woman bravely called to her dog who returned and pounced on her attacker." The surprised attacker immediately fled, but the Alsatian pursued him, leaped and brought him down, biting deeply into the man's leg. |
Despite being wounded, the attacker managed to escape. Police continue to search for him. If you have any information that may help the police, please contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555111. §§§
