Royal Air Force Sends Chopper to Rescue Dog |
April 25, 2001 Llandudno, North Wales, UK As he clung to the ledge overhanging the terrifying drop onto the jagged rocks below, Mr. Williams may have turned to his dog and said, "Well, here's another fine mess you've gotten us into, Georgie." The Coastguard, the Llandudno Cliff Rescue Team and a Royal Air Force Valley helicopter all descended on Angel Bay last Thursday in a concerted, choreographed maneuver that probably looked a lot like a scene out of that 70's TV show S.W.A.T. (Click here to play that cool theme song; the article reads much better with a bit of background music). Earlier that afternoon, "Georgie", a black cross Lurcher, got himself stranded on a cliff ledge 50 ft. up, while taking a walk with guardian Dan Williams and canine pal "Chunk". Mr. Williams climbed up to rescue Georgie, but got stranded himself. Then Chunk, a black Staffordshire puppy, climbed up to rescue Mr. Williams, and got stranded himself. (If the S.W.A.T. music has finished, maybe now would be a good time to play the Three Stooges song.) |
A man walking at the top of the cliffs noticed the trapped trio and raised the alarm. Within minutes, a cavalcade of rescuers arrived, scaled 70 ft. down the cliff and brought the three to safety. Watch manager Bungy Williamson said: "We are pleased to report that Mr Williams and his dogs are safe and well and that no injuries were sustained."
