EDMOND, OK — Last week Edmond Police officers were engaged in hot pursuit of a prowler on the University of Central Oklahoma Campus. Field training officer Bryan Weathers and his partner Jeff Meadows chased the fleeing suspect into a heavily wooded park where the fugitive hid and refused to surrender. Then Officer Meadows announced to the suspect that if he did not come out they would release the police dog. "Uh, Jeff..." his partner may have whispered at this point, "We didn't bring the police dog." Thinking fast and utilizing his expert skills of canine impersonations, Officer Bryan Weathers launched into a tirade of growls, barks and gnashing of teeth (most probably to the counterpoint of Officer Meadows' "Down Killer! Not yet! Wait for my signal!" or something of the like). Instants later the fugitive Donald Eugene Frazier, 32, came out and surrendered. Frazier, a non-student with a minor history of campus trespassing offenses, was arrested and charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. |
For their stellar performance, the two officers won a trip to Los Angeles and an appearance on Jay Leno's "The Tonight Show". When interviewed by The Scoop reporters, Colby, a real dog at the Edmond station, reportedly commented, "[Sigh] This job has gone to the humans."
