Leo Opinions

Wednesday, June 20, 2001 - WORLD

Thanks to all who responded to last weeks poll: The Leo Story: How Much is Enough?  Of the 128 responses we received, the results are as follows:

Paws Up

Paws Down

Paws Askew
83% 6% 11%

So it looks like you'll be hearing a little more on the subject—in particular, next month's sentencing.  Again, thanks for the great response as well as the encouraging comments we received, some of which are printed here:

Sick of this?, no way. This heinous creep Andrew Burnett is my Tim McVeigh, I'm just sorry there is no chance he'll be executed.  He must be locked up for the whole three years. It will be a savings to society really, cheaper than caring for his battered women, (and God forbid he be allowed to breed) and children.

People, don't any of you realize he has all of the characteristics of a serial killer? They always start with animals (Bundy, Dahmer, Gacey), he must be stopped!!!! I will post the info for all of to get your voice heard by the Santa Clara County District Attorneys Office. I live in Michigan, and I've called. Remember, the lead prosecutor is an elected official, and they don't want people even out of their areas upset with them. So what if ol' Andy is out the workplace for a few years, not being a protective member of society- Would you want him working in your (or your husbands, wifes, sons, daughters, parents) office??? No way! What would happen the first time his check was wrong? I have one more word - POSTAL!

Thank goodness for the internet - it is so good to get animal news from around the world. I have a Hearing Dog for the Deaf (Hearing Ear Dog) who is so valuable to me with the soundwork, and most of all, her love and companionship in a very lonely and isolating world. Keep up the good work!

I need to know whether or not justice is served!

Keep it up!

The man that did this needs to be punished. I have a Bichon and I know they are the sweetest dogs ever. I would like to be kept up to date on this sick man's trial. Thanks. Karen.

YES, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO THIS GUY AFTER DOING SUCH A CRUEL THING. WHY WAS HIS HAND IN HER CAR TO BEGIN WITH!

§§§

This kind of cruelty goes on every hour of every day. And unless it's kept in the public's eye, these psychopaths, who commit these brutal crimes, will get away with them.

It's absolutely critical to get as much coverage and exposure as possible.

As for those who get sick of hearing about these acts of pain, suffering, and death, it means that they have no compassion; just an interest in the sensational. Once the excitement fades they move on to the next news story. They have no real concern or compassion for the animal.

And yes, your metaphor sucks. It's that kind of casual use of brutal terminology, which desensitizes us and paves the way for this kind of violence.

§§§

We need law enforcement to protect innocent animals from emotionally damaged people.

§§§

I am always interested in an story that has to do with animal rights, especially when a jury and people across the country have come together to nail a man who has killed an innocent and unassuming pet.
