Dog Drives Car, Dog Crashes Car

Sunday, July 15, 2001 - GERMANY

Q. Why do dogs need licenses, but cats don't?

A. Because cats can't drive.

CHEMNITZ — No, it's not a bad scene out of a Muppets movie; what we have today is fresh off the newswire.  In Germany, it seems that a  renegade pooch has inadvertently caused a little roadside ruckus.

In the eastern German town of Chemnitz, two motorists collided in the parking lot of a shopping center, prompting one driver to hop out of his car to confront the other.  The Scoop believes that the dialogue may have gone something like this:

Motorist #1:  Hey, Pal, where'd you learn to drive?!

Motorist #2: Uh, dog school?

In the driver's seat was one very excited but oblivious dog who, police believe, had let off the handbrake when it jumped from the back seat into the front, reported UK's Ananova News last week.

Dog license?  Yes.  Driver's license?  Probably not.  He'd never pass the eye exam.

"What seems to be the problem, officer?"
