As we digest what may have come as a
horrible shock, it's heartening to realize that there are many
others out there who are on our side. These are just a few of the
many messages we have received from affected individuals regarding the
plight of Chinese dogs:
I was happy that someone passed along
your article on the animal atrocities in China...I belong to a huge
network of rescuers/animal lovers/animal transporters/etc. and we just
received the info on the mass killings prior to the OC vote. I
know that many people wrote/called/ emailed in protest in hopes of
preventing Beijing from getting the bid.
Sad to say, but if their human-rights violations didn't stop them from
getting it, it was clear that their treatment of the animals wouldn't
stop it either. Maybe that's why I could never be a
politician. I could never put votes or money above animals'
rights. Those people should be ashamed of themselves!
My calls, emails, and letters to stop Beijing from hosting the
olympics might have been for naught, but I, for one, will not be
supporting any of the sponsors. Nor will I be watching any of
the games. Perhaps if more people did this it would show them
that if we can't appeal to their consciences, then we'll try their
wallets. Wouldn't it be great if whatever channel is
broadcasting the olympics decided not to because of this?

With what the ioc has done with the
2008 games, I believe we should start a boycott of all companies who
support the Olympic games. I believe we should not wait until 2008, we
should start now. After all companies like General Motors helped China
prepare their presentation for the ioc. If you do decide to pass
my letter on, you may use my name and e-mail address. I am not ashamed
of how I feel.
Thank you

I'm also really dissapointed that
China has won the 2008 Olympic bid. China is a country where
people are imprisoned and executed just for owning a fax machine!
Dogs and cats are stolen and skinned (sometimes alive) to make
clothing accessories and fur figurines which are still illegally
making their way into the US. It seems that money interests of
Olympic sponsors have overcome basic human decency. Facing
greedy sponsors who are focusing on the Chinese market, a market of
20% of the world population, it will be an uphill battle for animal
and human rights. Please check out the HSUS undercover
investigation of the dog and cat fur trade in China via the url
link I provided. Thanks.
