BRAUNAU — The Braunau Police filed a report this week stating that an allegedly suicidal sheep plunged to its death from a 10m (33ft) railway bridge, but not before striking a 31-year-old woman on the head. The woman was out walking her German Shepherd beneath the bridge, totally unaware of the drama taking place just above: a pack of livestock had just broken out of a field, and about a dozen men including two police officers, were in pursuit. While all the sheep were rounded up and returned to the farm, one ram continued to elude capture and made its way to the Austrian railway bridge near Braunau. "Top of the world, Ma!" (or rather, "Top of the world! Baaa!"), it may have exclaimed, opting not to take the sheepish way out. Police Inspector Andreas Kirchtag later insisted that the beast's kamikaze dive seemed to be an intentional act. "It panicked and leapt off the edge," he said. "It did not fall or anything, my men said it actually jumped off 10 metres or so to the ground. It was practically suicide." |
The woman suffered bruising to her head, shoulder and back as well as dizziness and disorientation. She was released from the hospital and is recovering at home, having taken a few days off from work. The dog was unharmed and ran for cover in the nearby shrubbery, lest more incoming fire befall them. Inspector Kirchtag describes, "The dog was not hit by the ram, it ran off away and hid under a bush it seems—even though it was a German Shepherd." Well, technically, German Shepherd dogs are only known for herding sheep on the ground. As for airborne livestock...? Yeah, when pigs have wings. §§§
