Thanks to everyone staying calm and not coming completely unraveled, the
little gal is now on the mend. Thank hemmings!
Well, I won't string this out any longer or keep you on pins and
needles with my bad sewing puns. That would seam very
rude. Well, I'm knot one to beat a joke to death...
The
Sun reported this week that "Narney", a
four-month-old German Pointer, managed to ingest a 2" needle which
lodged itself in the lining of her stomach, less than an inch from
piercing her internal organs.
Gemma Head, 21, recalls having left the
offending needle on a shelf after mending a pair of trousers at her Crofe
Mullen home. Two hours later, she noticed Narney bouncing around
with a bit of twine hanging from her mouth. Ms. Head, who works as a
nurse at the Hillside Veterinary Centre in Corfe Mullen, rushed the puppy
to the facility for an X-ray.
"I was panic-stricken when I saw the
X-ray, and I burst into tears because I knew how serious it was," she
told reporters.
Ms. Head herself assisted in the emergency operation performed by
veterinarian Chris Devlin.

"This was a particularly nasty case and it’s a miracle she is
unharmed," Dr. Devlin remarked. "If Narney had been left
for another 24 hours she would not have survived."
After the delicate surgery had been finished, Narney was given a clean
bill of health. The sewing needle was successfully extracted from
her belly, and the hungry seamstress was patched up with—what
else?—fifteen stitches.

Narney and Gemma may be forced to take up a safer hobby ...like bungee-jumping.
