"I wonder if that silly
duck will remember that he can fly? (THUD) ...I guess
not."
Bugs
Bunny
Mel Blanc (1908-1989)
STAPLEFORD, LEICESTERSHIRE (UK) — Whatever
you do, don't say the "d" word around Henry; he
believes he's a Rottweiler, nothing else.
The fact that he has wings is irrelevant.
Yesterday, the UK Sun Newspaper brought us the absurd story
of "Henry", an adult Indian Runner duck who walks like a dog, plays like a dog and sleeps with a
dog. Henry has behaved this way since the day he escaped from
his pen and introduced himself to "Jaffa", a large,
two-year-old Rottweiler guard dog.
"I saw the gate to the pen swinging and just thought 'Oh no,'
" says Michelle Van Craeyenest, 35. Henry had
been given to her as an anniversary present from her husband Gary.
"I thought Jaffa might have gone for Henry," she
describes. "That’s a natural instinct. But Jaffa
just sniffed at him and that was that.
"Later I took Jaffa out for his walk and Henry just
followed—and followed. Now wherever Jaffa goes Henry goes too. I
can’t keep them apart. They even sleep in the same pen together."
The cross-cultural exchange of ideas, however, is not without its
disadvantages. Ms. Van Craeyenest told reporters that her dog
Jaffa has lately been inclined to swimming in the duck pond with the loony
waterfowl.
"I only get upset when Jaffa dives in the pond and then tries
to get into the house," she says. “A wet duck is a lot
easier to deal with than a hulking wet dog."
That's nothing. Just wait till Jaffa tries flying south for
the winter.
