JACKSON, Mich.
(USA) — A killer goose tried to drown a 1-year-old puppy last week at
the Somerset Beach campground in southern Michigan.
Christi, a Labrador Retriever, was
chasing geese along the shore and into the lake when a male goose decided
he'd had enough. After luring the pup into deep water, the goose
suddenly turned the tables and initiated an attack, the Jackson
Citizen Patriot reports.

Further up shore, Amy Frederick, a lifeguard was judging a sand
castle competition at the time and noticed the pooch in distress.
"As is common when a predator is bothering them, the male goose
attempts to lure the dog away from the rest of the flock and then tries to
drown them," explains Ms. Frederick, a recent graduate of Spring Arbor
University.
"I saw the goose lead Christi out to deeper water and knew she was
in trouble."
(I guess you could say that the dog's goose was cooked.)
There, in front of a large group of campers and about 40 children, the
vanquished puppy slipped under. Ms. Frederick immediately dove into the water,
acting with the same alacrity and determination as if she were rescuing a human.
"I could tell the poor thing was exhausted and those geese just
kept diving at her and tormenting her," Ms. Frederick told reporters.
"I couldn't bear to let a dog drown, especially in front of all those
kids."

"She was in the middle of
the lake and so tired that when I reached her, she latched onto me and
laid her paws right on my shoulders," said Ms. Frederick.
Assisted by fellow lifeguard
Tiffany Rowe in a pontoon boat, the frightened Lab was hauled in and brought to shore
safely.
(I guess you could say that the
villainous plot of the wicked goose had run afowl.)
Dave Luke, the campground's
executive director said, "When they had the dog safely to shore, the
kids just went crazy with their cheering and clapping."
(And Christi the pup learned a
valuable lesson: never go on a wild goose chase by yourself, because you
never know waddle happen.)
