WATERFORD, Wis. (USA) — Look out;
here comes Robinson Cur-rusoe.
WISN
Channel 12 reports that a tiny Chihuahua named "Spicy"
is back at home after being stranded for seven days alone on an
island, subsisting on a diet of insects.
The little white dog had apparently fallen or jumped off a pontoon boat
while riding with guardian Nancy Reynolds. Spicy's sudden
disappearance prompted a panic on board, followed by an extensive but
fruitless search.
"I just got hysterical and started crying, 'Oh my God, my little
Spicy's gone'," Ms. Reynolds told Channel 12.
Little did anyone know that the 15-pound pooch was paddling for
Tranquility Island, which she reached 3 miles away (remember, that's about
21 in dog miles). After reaching land, Spicy found shelter
beneath a house.
It was seven days before maintenance workers found her on the island
exhausted and with a broken leg, but miraculously alive.

"She's just a great survivor," says Ms. Reynolds.
"She isn't about to give up. She wants to go on with life, but I
think she's aged a bit since that ordeal."

Getting back to her old self, Spicy can be seen romping around her back
yard in Waterford, where she has become a small celebrity. Friends
and neighbors have formulated theories on how the ingenious pooch managed
to survive; a veterinarian believes she survived by eating bugs and small
rodents.
Investigators here at The Scoop have come up with a different
hypothesis. We think she could've had some help.

"As soon as you get back to the mainland, Spicy, don't forget
to tell everyone we're here! Saved at last, Little Buddy!"
