CANTON, Ohio (USA) — Calling all
cars: be on the lookout for a suspected rapist wearing torn black jeans,
bloodstains (his own), and comedic fear of dogs.
News
Net 5 reported last week that a protective pooch named
"Chance" was the only thing that saved a woman from an attempted
rape. On Sunday, Aug. 25, Micki Stringfield, of Canton, went to the
basement of her house to wash clothes, unaware that an intruder was hiding
there. Chance, a mixed-breed dog who had only been with Ms.
Stringfield for a month, was chained upstairs at the time.
When the woman flipped on the light switch, she was confronted by the
assailant who immediately attacked.
"I turned around and ran toward the steps," said Ms.
Stringfield. "He grabbed me and swung me around and I hit my
head on [a] pole. Then, he grabbed me and threw me on this mattress
right here."
Ms. Stringfield, taken by surprise, was at a total disadvantage, but
not for long. Upstairs, Chance had heard the woman's screams and was
busy tearing loose of his leash. Within seconds, he broke free and
bolted down the steps to the rescue.
The dog bit hard and got a mouthful. The report did not specify
exactly what, but based on our knowledge of canine justice, we can make a
creative guess as to the general vicinity of the chomp (remember "Dog
Takes a Bite Out of Flasher's Manhood", Apr. 20?).

"He bit him bad, because the guy had black jeans on, and they were
ripped and you could see the blood," Ms. Stringfield told reporters.
She indicated that this hasn't been the first incident at her
home. There have been four break-ins since she moved there in
January, but she says she's not afraid, knowing she has a fool-proof
four-legged security system.

A little bulkier than a can of mace, but this one's as reliable
as it gets. "Chance" rescued his 1-month roommate from a
rapist's attack.

"He follows me wherever I go now," says Ms. Stringfield.
"He has to sleep in my room now. If he's outside my door, he'll
bark, whine . . . I love him."
Police say that the intruder is still on the run (... or as the
case may be: on the limp).
