LONDON (UK) — This is
incredible. No, I'm not talking about the dog falling 120 feet;
that's nothing. I'm talking about how we almost made it three months
before another kamikaze canine decided to dive-bomb the English Channel.
Last year
they were running like clockwork, but I guess projectile pooches are a bit
passé these days.
All the same, another daredevil dog shocked and
amazed the world by falling almost halfway down a 300ft (90m) cliff and
surviving with no injuries, BBC
News reports.
On Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7:50pm, "Holly" the Spaniel was
taking a walk with her with her human along the cliff top at
Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone in Kent, when she suddenly went over.
The man called for help and was surprised when the Folkestone Fire
Station showed up with three fire appliances, a line rescue team, a cliff
rescue team and two officers—a total of 19 rescuers.
"If it's an animal or a person, it is treated exactly the
same," explains leading firefighter Mike Godden of the Shepway
District Fire Safety Office. "To us it's a life."
Folkestone firefighters Mark Seal and Paul Garrity were lowered down
the cliff wearing rescue harnesses and armed with a thermal imaging camera
to make it easier to locate Holly in the dark. They found her
stranded on a ledge 120ft down with "no injuries
whatsoever." Holly rode back up to the top in a line rescue bag
and was reunited with her human. The entire operation took less than
an hour-and-a-half.
Afterward,
Mr. Godden expressed the awe and relief felt by everyone at the scene:
"The actual cliff face has about a 160° drop, as good as vertical
all the way down. I was half expecting to find it dead at the
bottom, but luckily it found a ledge half way down.
"All the blokes who carried out the rescue were amazed that they
found the dog, especially with no injuries."
