Flying dog sets new world record for high jump

What kind of dog is the highest jumper? No, it's not a Springer Spaniel. It's not a Skye Terrier either. Nope, not an Airedale. Give up? I hope so, because I'm fresh out of bad puns.

Yesterday the Guinness World Record for "highest jump by a dog" went to a Greyhound named "Soaring Cindy". Cindy, a 5-year-old, 60-pound pooch from Miami, cleared 5'-8" (173 cm) on her first attempt, winning her the honor at the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge national finals.

Her feat broke the existing world record of 66 inches (167.6 cm) which she had previously set on October 3, 2003.

Cindy (official name: "Cindarella May a Holly Grey") was born in December 2000 at a dog track in Florida, one of the 16 states in the USA where dog racing is legal. She was the result of an unscheduled breeding between two Greyhound racing dogs, and as a result, the track had no use for her.

Along with other pups from her litter, she was rescued by Hollydogs Greyhound Adoption and adopted out, but she proved to be too high-energy for the family, so she was returned after 3 months.

At 6 months old, Cindy was again adopted, this time by Kathy Conroy and Kate Long who say their 2-year-old Collie "Colleen" was instrumental in picking Cindy as the new dog for the household. Cindy's been high on life ever since.
