"Pit bull saves 2 women from deadly cobra "

How very sad and how typical for our best friends - they seldom hesitate where we would. Cobras, though deadly, are not fast strikers so the best thing to do is just stay out of their way.If one comes into the house, open the doors to give it an escape route and push it on it's way with a broom. It is more afraid of you than you are of it! Wear glasses or goggles as they can spit surprisingly far and are accurate. Keep your pets out the way, it is their instinct to attack in this sort of situation. Yes, I have personal experience of cobras and other snakes - I live in Africa!

No dogs are born bad, it's just the idiot owners that make them that way. People can be so bloody cruel to their dogs and even as the dogs lay dieing they will still wag their tails if their owners come in the room. How loyal is that!

Pitbulls get way too much of a bad rap due to owners upbringing. A pitbull by far is one of the most amazing breeds out there. Prior to my bullmastiff I had a pit and he would do everything he could to protect me. Praise pits and euthanize the irresposible owners! This dog that saved those two women was more of a savior then most people could be!! LOYAL TO A FAULT!

How sad indeed when this happens upon one of man's most beloved creatures. To the family, I hope they fair well and may Cheif rest in peace.

That is so sad that the pit bull died right after he saved 2 woman from a cobra!!!!!! But that dog should have lived so maybe he could have saved anoher person from something!!!

How very sad that this wonderful Pit Bull is no longer with us. He is a great example of how wonderful these dogs are and how unfair the reputation given to them by some stupid people. We can learn so much from dogs...selflessness being one of the most important lessons they teach us.

I am a veterinary technician and I have known so many wonderful and sweet Pit Bulls. They are very courageous dogs.

I hope that people will wake up and realize that there is no specific breed that is "bad." It is the fault of stupid people who train them to be that way. May be instead of breed-specific legislation, there should be a ban on dog-owning for all people who train dogs to behave in a nasty manner.

I love Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. They are some of the best dogs around.

This is one of the most sadest stories I've ever read. American Pit Bull Terriers are so devoted to their owners. It is such a shame that the breed has such a bad name. I always try to promote a better image for the breed by participating in conformation events and weight pull events with my pit bulls. Pit Bulls are not bad at all. They are very loving and protective dogs especially to their loved ones. I know it because I have a loving pet and also a family member for 8 years. My pitbull always follows me and always stays near beside me as possible. And I know based from my experience, It is not the dog that is bad, It is the one who takes care of it!

After reading this article I almost cried because I know how that kind of dog protect their loved ones. And I know for sure that based from their upbringing of the dog, they did great.. really great!! I hugged my pitbull very tightly after I read the article and smiled at my pitbull looking very closely to his face while he smiled me back..

Prayers for the family and Chief, may he found peace at heavens. And can still watch the family from above.. And to those who think these kind of dogs are bad and always criticize it's kind.. Shame on YOU! You need to take more broader understanding to your closed peanut-sized brain.

Its so sad to here such a story like that. I have a pitt bull, and she's the most loyal dog i have ever owned, i dont care what people say, pitt bull's are excellent dogs, their so loyal, intelligent and extremely loving and protective dogs, unfortunately some people just choose to bring them up wrong, and thats how they get their bad name. I couldnt help but cry to this story

Pitt Bulls are amazing dogs. I am a very proud owner of a 4month old pitt bull. Unfortunatley where i live pitt bulls are banned b/c morons and idiots out there give these excellent breeds a bad name. Whenever someone asks me what breed she is i have to lie, b/c in fear that people will report her and take her away.
Yet such a story like this, the government and people have to ask themselves are these dogs really what the media has made them to be.

The story about Chief touches me deeply and it made me even cry. I got a pit bull myself and it would break my heart if he was doing the same thing for my family. People just don't get how messed up their opinion is when it comes to that certain breed. It's just the darn media who messes things up. All you people out there not trusting pit bulls, give them creatures a chance and meet them face to face. Go to a dog shelter where the "bad guys" are and look what will happen. If you're still against them afterwards please ask yourself about your own nature.

Thanks
Peter

Now you see how dogs love their owners and they will do anything to protect them. Cheif is a loyal companion, he risked his life to save the people he really truly loved and he died for them. And if you think that this sacrifice is big, then listen to an even bigger one. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins so that we may be saved and he love all of you so much.
He was beaten and was given a crown of thorns to wear and above all of this, he was made fun of because he said he was the savior which he was. Cheif saved two very special people, if it werent for him they would habe been dead. To who ever lost such a great dog, Cheif, may God be with you during this time of sorrow.

I'm sure pit bulls can be very nice dogs, but unfortunately the two bad experiences I've had with dogs were both with pit bulls.  I do know one nice one however.  And Chief sounds amazing!

Hey Kelly you've got a great attitude! Even though you've had some bad experiences you're smart enough to realize that each dog is different. I hope you have good experiences from now on!!

SO happy to find this article and read the positive responses.  This was a sad story but a great example of how wonderful this breed can be.  I wish this story could have made national headlines just like the bad stories about them do.  It would only be fair. Every pit I've met has been sweet as pie.  I wish the media would point out it's the way they're raised.

It's so nice to see there are some sensible people. Pit Bulls are wonderful pets. Mine is an 8 yr old mixed breed Pit and he's the most loving and affectionate dog. My heart goes out to the family of Chief. He is truly a Hero to his family and other Pit Bull owners. I wish the good things their breed does would make the news more often. It's sad it took such a tragic loss to give recognition where it is clearly due. RIP Chief.

this is very sad and it made me cry because pit bulls are often classifieds as fatal just because of some which weren't raised well that gave the breed a bad name but really how many pit bulls have attacked and killed compared to those millions who remain loyal the problem with people is that they only look at the faults and not the good this breed has done I mean i have 2 pit bulls and i don't know what I'd do if i lose them i think humans should learn the contribution these species do to the world

I suppose that's a fair question. There are some scary pit bulls out there (just like there are scary humans). But I guess the point is that you can't condemn an entire breed (or race) based on a few. If that were true, we'd have to exterminate ourselves right now!

I've met 1 or 2 nasty pit bulls, but I've met tons of really sweet ones. Usually the nasty ones have jerks for owners who keep them chained up outside all day, while the sweet ones have nice people taking care of them. Whadaya expect??? :)
